Derek O. Goldsmith is an associate in the firm’s Insurance Litigation group. His practice focuses on civil litigation with a specialization in first party insurance defense and pre-litigation investigations and evaluations. Prior to joining Bressler, Derek practiced civil and commercial litigation in Boca Raton, Florida where he represented and defended individuals and entities involved in contractual disputes.
Derek began his legal career serving as an Assistant State Attorney with the 11th Judicial Circuit of Miami-Dade County, Florida, in which he handled a case load of over 150 cases, which included violent felonies to economic crimes.
Derek is an experienced trial lawyer having completed over 50 jury and non-jury trials to verdict. He received a B.S.B.A. undergraduate degree in business administration, with a major in economics from the University of Florida, and a J.D. from Stetson University College of Law.
During law school, Derek interned in Washington D.C. where his work was focused on constitutional law. He was also a Certified Legal Intern with the Hillsborough County State Attorney’s Office, Broward County State Attorney’s Office, and Pinellas County Public Defender’s Office. He received several awards during law school including a “Book Award” in his trial advocacy class for his outstanding work and performance.
