Frederick K. Schoenbrodt, II represents clients in trust and estate matters and is chair of the firm’s Estate Planning and Administration practice.  

Each client comes to the firm with personal and financial circumstances, goals and objectives that are unique to her or him. To advise and assist those clients effectively and efficiently, Fred relies on the substantial breadth and depth of his experience, gained over nearly two decades of practice and concentrated in the following areas:

  • Preparing wills, trusts, and other estate, tax, and charitable planning documents
  • Estate planning for senior executives, professionals, business owners, families with significant wealth, artists and collectors, international families, non-citizen spouses, and families with disabled beneficiaries
  • Counseling executors, trustees, and beneficiaries on the administration and taxation of estates and trusts
  • Litigating and mediating disputes related to wills, trusts, and estates, including disputes regarding the construction and interpretation of will and trust terms, challenges to the validity of wills, and fiduciary and accounting matters
  • Philanthropic planning for individuals, families and businesses, including the formation and operation of private foundations, public charities and charitable trusts

Fred is a member of Bressler's Senior Issues: Counseling and Litigation Defense group. The lawyers in this group have a shared interest in providing counsel to corporate clients who confront issues affecting seniors.

Fred serves on the Board of Consultors, the governing body of the Real Property, Trust and Estate Law Section of the New Jersey State Bar Association. He is a member of the Society of Trust and Estate Practitioners (STEP), a U.K.-based organization of tax, legal and financial professionals focused on advising families across generations, and holds the society’s TEP designation. Fred also serves as national liaison of the American Bar Association’s Section on International Law to the ABA’s Real Property, Trust and Estate Law Section.  

Fred is a regular speaker before audiences of experienced trust and estate practitioners and an author and contributor on estate, trust and tax matters. He is co-author of New Jersey Estate Planning, Will Drafting and Estate Administration Forms, a two-volume treatise published by LexisNexis Matthew Bender that is updated annually to reflect changes in law and practice.

Active in his community, Fred is a Trustee of the Community Foundation of New Jersey and chairs its Legal, Wealth and Tax Advisory Committee. He is also a Trustee of the West Morris Soccer Club and a former member of the Mendham Borough Board of Education.  

Fred earned a Master of Laws (LL.M.) in Taxation from the New York University School of Law, a J.D. from the University of Maryland School of Law, and a B.A. from Gettysburg College. Prior to entering private practice, Fred served as a U.S. Army judge advocate with the 25th Infantry Division in Hawaii. He resides in Mendham with his wife Nicole and their three children.
