Overview

David J. Butler is the Co-Chair of the firm's Cybersecurity, Privacy & Technology practice group, and a member of the firm's Financial Institutions practice.   David's extensive background includes commercial litigation, arbitration, and regulatory enforcement proceedings as well as counseling clients on data privacy and cybersecurity compliance.   While primarily representing the financial services and insurance industry, David advises companies of all sizes on data security matters and risk mitigation.  He regularly counsels clients regarding information security threats and the evolving regulatory landscape.  He assists clients with developing and deploying effective data privacy and cybersecurity compliance policies as well as creating incident response programs.   He also counsels clients on the development of e-discovery policies and protocols in connection with litigation and regulatory investigations.

David is a Certified Information Privacy Professional (CIPP/US) through the International Association of Privacy Professionals and a Certified E-Discovery Specialist (CEDS).   He is a frequent writer and speaker on developments in information security and data privacy regulation and litigation, as well as best practices in incident response.

As a member of the firm’s Financial Institutions practice group, David represents financial institutions in litigation, arbitration, and regulatory proceedings. He also has significant experience with commercial litigation and business disputes.
