Bressler Employees to Work with Habitat for Humanity in Everglades City on Saturday, October 14

The Miami and Fort Lauderdale offices of Bressler, Amery & Ross are helping Habitat for Humanity of Collier County with post-Irma recovery and clean-up in Everglades City on October 14. The firm will transport its employees to one of the hardest-hit areas in the state, and work with Habitat for Humanity to help fellow Floridians with recovery efforts.

While Habitat Collier’s efforts have traditionally been focused on building affordable housing in Naples and Immokalee, the extreme need for relief called them to Everglades City. Hurricane Irma’s 140 mph winds and storm surge ravaged the town, destroying many of its homes and businesses. Habitat Collier CEO, Rev. Lisa Lefkow says the nonprofit has been sending crews of staff and volunteers to offer supplies and help with cleanup.

“Habitat homes weathered the storm with no structural damage, but our neighbors in Everglades City weren’t so fortunate. We have an incredible volunteer force, and we know all those extra hands will make an impact for people down there who are really in need.”

Over 40 people will make the trip from Bressler’s Fort Lauderdale, including lawyers, staff, and their family members.

"During this period of disruption, we felt a need to come together as one big community, and reach out to help others not as fortunate as ourselves. We were lucky on the East Coast, and if not for a slight shift of direction at the end, it would have been us who felt Irma’s wrath," said Wes Holston, Managing Principal of the firm's Florida offices.

"The response internally has been overwhelming and truly heartwarming. Hopefully, this is just one of many projects to help others in need, as we are also reaching out to organizations in the Keys to see how we can assist those displaced and affected there,” he added.
