Bressler Amery & Ross PC has bolstered its Texas presence with a new location in Austin, the firm's third office in the state and 10th overall.

The new office will strengthen the firm's financial institutions and complex litigation practice, Bressler Amery said in a statement Monday. Expansion in Texas was part of the firm's strategic growth plan for a greater presence in the state to better support its clients with business in the region, it said.

The firm opened its Houston and Dallas offices in 2020.

The announcement of the Austin office follows the January hiring of principal Ronak V. Patel, an asset management and financial institutions attorney who will lead the Austin shop. He was most recently a shareholder for four years at Winstead PC in Austin, according to his LinkedIn profile.

Bressler Amery's main interest in the city was attached to Patel's hiring, Diana Manning, managing principal of the firm, told Law360 Pulse. Patel is well known in Austin legal circles.

"When we think about expanding our locations or even our teams, we always like to start with people that we know and Ronak is someone that is very well known to my colleagues in the Texas offices," Manning said. "We like to grow organically, often with people that we know and that we've worked with, or that we've gotten to know from cases. And that's a strategy that's been very successful for us. That's how we actually ended up opening the Dallas and Houston offices."

Patel's practice focuses on representing broker-dealers, investment advisers, private equity firms, hedge funds and other private funds, public companies and institutions in government investigations, securities law enforcement matters and related litigation, the firm said.

"The time was right for Bressler to expand into the Austin area," Patel said in a statement. "I've long been familiar with Bressler and its reputation. With the number of clients and the demand for services from those clients in the area increasing, it makes sense for Bressler to have boots on the ground here. "

The office is at 500 W. Second St. in Austin. Manning said the firm expects to grow the office with attorneys to support Patel.

"We're certainly open to expanding any of our existing practices," Manning said. "We're always interested in expanding the business and commercial litigation and our securities groups. But I suspect that in the near term, we will expand Ronak's team. He has a specialty in regulatory and working with our securities brokerage clients. And he's also got a depth of experience with data privacy and things like crypto."

Bressler Amery has offices in New Jersey, New York, Florida, Alabama, North Carolina, Texas and Washington, D.C. Its clients range from Fortune 500 corporations to small privately held companies as well as investment advisers, brokerage firms, banks, franchises, insurers and nonprofits.
