FAMILY LAW | CUSTODY AND CHILD SUPPORT
20-2-8328, App. Div. (Nugent, J.A.D.) (35 pp.) In this divorce action, plaintiff appealed and defendant cross-appealed from a dual judgment of divorce. Plaintiff challenged the provisions of the judgment concerning: limited duration alimony, child support and equitable distribution. Defendant contended that the trial court erred by: awarding excessive alimony, not alternating the tax deduction for the children, not ordering plaintiff to obtain life insurance and awarding plaintiff half the value of his business. Both parties contended that the court incorrectly awarded attorney fees. The appellate panel affirmed the alimony award but reversed the child support award and remanded for further proceedings. The panel also reversed and remanded for further proceedings certain provisions of the final judgment concerning equitable distribution relating to plaintiff's IRA and a home equity loan, as well as defendant's 2007 bonus. The provisions of the judgment awarding counsel fees were vacated.
