BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (Feb. 4, 2026) – Bressler, Amery & Ross, P.C. is pleased to announce that Attorney Sarah Hughes has been appointed President of the Junior Board of the Volunteer Lawyers of Birmingham (VLB), highlighting the firm’s commitment to community engagement and access to justice.
Volunteer Lawyers Birmingham provides free civil legal services to low-income individuals and families throughout Jefferson County. In October 2025, Bressler received the VLB’s Law Firm of the Year award at the Breakfast of Champions event, hosted in the firm’s Birmingham office and organized by Hughes. As President of the Junior Board, Hughes will manage the fairs of the 38-member board and support VLB’s mission through outreach, fundraising initiatives, and community engagement efforts.

Hughes is an attorney in the firm’s Insurance Defense and Litigation practice groups, where she focuses on insurance and commercial litigation. She focuses on representing property insurers in various lawsuits related to homeowner’s insurance. Her expertise encompasses a wide range of losses, including hurricane and windstorm claims, water damage and plumbing failures, and disputes arising from emergency mitigation and repair services, among others. Throughout her career, Hughes has demonstrated a strong commitment to pro bono work and community involvement.
Hughes added, "I am honored to be elected president of the board. The VLB is vital to our community, and my focus this year is to increase volunteer participation among Birmingham’s legal professionals to enhance access to essential resources for those in need."
The VLB Junior Board consists of emerging professionals who are dedicated to supporting the organization’s mission and enhancing its impact through advocacy, volunteerism, and strategic initiatives.
